Life Skills

PDF Print E-mail

Young people need to learn a wide range of academic skills.  In addition to academic instruction, children need to gain instruction in how to perform independent life and social skills.  Life skills are just as important as academic skills in preparing children for future employment, social integration and participation in the community.

Life skills are those skills or characteristics that create the building blocks enabling children to reach their own real potential. Areas such as planning, communication, influencing skills, problem solving, team working and self awareness are all important building blocks in a child journey into adulthood.

Education alone will not equip your child to deal with the challenges of the 21st century.  When they are faced with the challenge of a job interview with the another applicant with the same qualifications, it is the individual that can effectively display life and social skills that will get the post. As such life skills can provide an important part of young person social development.
